HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ACCIDENT & INJURY CHIROPRACTIC!
As we say goodbye to 2018, we all hope things will be better in the new year. It’s human nature to be excited when we get a fresh start. And there is good reason for that optimism when it comes to traffic fatalities in 2019.
First, there is some bad news for Texans. According to Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) data from the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration, our state had the most traffic fatalities of any state in the US in 2017. (Complete 2018 stats are still being calculated.) We topped the charts with 3,722 traffic fatalities followed by California with 3,602 and Florida with 3,112. But those statistics also show some improvement. They represent a 2.86% decrease in traffic accident fatalities from the previous year. If we make focusing on safe driving habits part of our New Year’s resolutions for 2019, we can make sure our traffic accident fatality numbers continue to decrease.
Let’s make it our goal to move down the list this year—starting with the choices we make tonight. As we celebrate New Year’s Eve here in North Texas, let’s designate sober drivers, put Uber on speed dial, plan to spend the night with friends, or skip the travel all-together and party at home. And those of us who do end up driving need to drive defensively and focus on safe driving habits. Though the weather forecast is for chillier temperatures tonight, there will be no precipitation, so our roadways should be dry. But that can also mean more revelers outside and traveling to and from parties, so we should all watch out for one another.
Here at Accident and Injury Chiropractic, we wish you a happy and safe New Year!
